Jennifer is a plywood boat, single chine, built on frames and stringers. Her unique feature is the engine location. She has a three-cylinder Perkins M30 diesel inboard, installed right forward under the double berth. This entails a long shaft train but permits unobstructed access to the wheelhouse from the cockpit. It also allowed us to build the engine into a sealed compartment with its own air supply in and out, thus greatly reducing engine noise levels.

The concept here was for a minimum long range motor boat for coastal cruising. We owned Jennifer for three seasons and cruised her all over the BC coast and the Alaska panhandle. With full headroom, cabin heater and reliable power, she remains for us a benchmark for the comfort level that is achievable in a small cruising boat. The original Jennifer has now moved to the East Coast and cruises on Chesapeake Bay.

Layout comprises a double berth forward with engine under. Interior steering station with port and starboard seats. Galley to starboard with two burner Force Ten kerosene stove with oven. Head to port with holding tank in the cockpit. Force Ten kerosene heater on the aft bulkhead to port. Exterior helm station in the cockpit to starboard.
